“Chewbacca was the best dog I’ve ever had. He was the most handsome long-haired dachshund with the sweetest personality. He was my constant companion; he followed me around the house, would sit in the kitchen while I cooked dinner, and cuddled with me on the couch in the evenings. He would initiate playtime by bringing me one of his toys and then sit and stare at me until I obliged. I always said goodbye to him with kisses before leaving in the morning for work and he would be first at the door when I got home to greet me with a wagging tail and excited bark. I was his world, and he was such a bright spot in mine. He gave me joy and unconditional love. I lost him way too soon – at only 4 years old – due to a genetic autoimmune disease we had no idea he had. I am thankful to God that he did not suffer (he was gone only 24 hours after symptom onset) and I am thankful to WRAHC and K-State Veterinary Hospital for giving him the absolute best care possible. He will always be “Mama’s Chews” and I will miss him terribly!”
