Hello, loyal subjects. It is I, Jake—official hospital cat, ruler of West Ridge Animal Health Center, and general expert on all things cozy. While you humans scurry around taking care of pets all day, I am busy overseeing operations from my various thrones (which you may mistakenly refer to as “exam tables” or “doctor’s offices”). Allow me to take you through a typical day in my kingdom.
Morning Routine: Royal Medications & Breakfast Feast
I begin my day with a royal treatment—my medications. You see, even the most distinguished of feline rulers need a little extra care. I take medicine for my high blood pressure and overactive thyroid, as well as a daily supplement for my arthritis. Once a month, I receive a special injection that helps keep my joints feeling spry. This means I can continue leaping onto cabinets and inspecting important documents (read: sitting on papers the doctors and techs are trying to use).
After my medications, I indulge in a delightful breakfast. Nutrition is important, and my dedicated human staff ensures I eat a balanced diet to support my health. I have, on occasion, attempted to sample other patients’ breakfasts—but alas, they are quite strict about me sticking to my own food.
Mid-Morning: Supervising Operations
Once breakfast is done, it’s time to make my rounds. I start in the treatment area, where I take a luxurious nap from my favorite throne – a chair that has been dedicated just to me (they claim I kept stealing theirs but I really was just trying to get my own all along). The humans claim they are “working” around me, but I know they secretly appreciate my presence. Occasionally, I wake up to give them an approving glance before returning to my slumber.
When I am fully rested, I embark on one of my favorite activities: sniffing under doors. You would be amazed at the variety of friends who visit my castle! Big Dogs, little dogs, cats of all kinds and sometimes lovely people too!! I like to stay informed about who is in my domain. Every now and then, I hear an interesting noise and must investigate further. The humans tell me I am being nosy. I call it staying vigilant.
Afternoon: Sunbathing & Snooping
After lunch, which is often hand fed to me on my throne in the treatment area, I take a stroll out front to bask in the sunshine. Vitamin D is essential, and I enjoy a good stretch while watching the outside world. Then, it’s time for another inspection—this time from above. I climb onto cabinets, shelves, and any other high surface I can reach. This is where I conduct my top-secret investigations. What’s inside this cupboard? What happens if I knock this pen onto the floor? These are the great mysteries I seek to uncover.
Evening: Winding Down
As the day winds down, I return to the doctors’ office for a final nap. The humans call this “end-of-day paperwork time,” but I see it as “Jake’s Evening Cuddle Hour.” Eventually, my staff finishes their work, and my kingdom grows quiet. I settle into my cozy bed, ready to recharge for another day of ruling, investigating, and—most importantly—napping.
Jake’s Wisdom for Fellow Pets
As a distinguished senior cat, I encourage all my furry subjects to get the care they need to stay happy and comfortable. Arthritis? There are medications and treatments that can help! High blood pressure or thyroid issues? Routine vet visits and proper medications can keep you feeling great. Regular checkups mean more time for naps, snacks, and sniffing under doors—all the important things in life.
So, if your pet is showing signs of slowing down, ask my trusted veterinary team for advice. They take excellent care of me, and they’ll do the same for your beloved companions. After all, every pet deserves to feel like royalty—just like me.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some very important napping to attend to. Until next time, my loyal subjects!
